Provided is a fluorescence observation apparatus whereby the dependency on remaining distance and the like in a divided image can be adequately removed and observation can be carried out using a highly quantitative fluorescence image. Adopted is a fluorescence observation apparatus (100) provided with: a pre-processing unit (46) for multiplying a fluorescence image and/or reference light image by a coefficient whereby the distance characteristic of return light intensity and the distance characteristic of fluorescence intensity acquired in advance for a standard sample reach a relationship of direct proportionality to each other, to generate a correction fluorescence image and a correction reference light image; a division image generation unit (43) for dividing the correction fluorescence image by the correction reference light image to generate a division image; a threshold value setting unit (45) for setting a threshold value on the basis of the mean value of the grayscale value of every pixel in the division image; an image adjustment unit (51) for expanding the contrast in the division image between a region having a grayscale value higher than the set threshold value and a region having a grayscale value lower than the threshold value; and a monitor (50) for displaying the division image in which the contrast has been expanded. |
