A shock absorbing member according to the present invention has a polygonal cross-section and is provided with: an outer peripheral wall (1) having a plurality of edge sections (2); and a plurality of ribs (5) which radially extend from the central axis and are connected to the central point in each of the edge sections (2). The boundary point between adjacent edge sections (2) on the outer peripheral surface of the outer peripheral wall (1) is a peak (P3), the central point in each edge section (2) on the outer peripheral surface of the outer peripheral wall (1) is a rib connection point (P2), and portions segmenting each edge section (2) into two, with the rib connection point (P2) as a boundary, are each half-edge sections (2a, 2b). When deformed by means of compression in the axial direction, the two adjacent half-edge sections (2a, 2b) sandwiching each of the peaks (P3) deform in a convex-concave manner in different directions in the radial direction, and deform by buckling repeatedly in the axial direction, with the points in the outer peripheral wall (1) corresponding to the rib connection points (P2) and peaks (P3) respectively as joints, and the central point of each of the half-edge sections (2a, 2b) as the middle part. |
