An apparatus for processing traffic information is provided. The apparatus comprises a receiving unit configured to receive traffic information including a sequence of one or several traffic information messages. The traffic information message has a traffic information component including: information corresponding to a congestion tendency for a road from a first location to a second location; a first identifier to identify that the traffic information component has the information corresponding to the congestion tendency for the road from the first location to the second location; and information corresponding to the road from the first location to the second location. The apparatus further comprises a decoding unit configured to decode the received traffic information. Interrelated apparatus and methods for processing traffic information are also provided.
