<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical element capable of reducing a deformation and flaws of an optical surface while maintaining a function of a flange end face when ejecting a core part for mold release to extract a molded object. <P>SOLUTION: In a mold opening process, a lens 10 is left behind in a second metallic mold 42 for molding a second optical surface OS2 that is relatively shallow, and in an ejection process after mold opening of the second metallic mold 42 and a subsequent molded object taking-out process, a gate part GP provided in the lens 10 can be prevented from deforming. Since a first metallic mold 41 for molding a first optical surface OS1 serves as a metallic mold in which the lens 10 is not left behind during mold opening, the partial thickness of a flange part 12 formed by the first metallic mold 41 is made small to thereby cause the distance between a first transfer surface S1 and a parting surface PS1 to be relatively close so that air can easily come out of the first transfer surface S1.
