<p>PURPOSE: A user interface providing method of a portable electronic device and the portable electronic device thereof are provided to enable convenient manipulation through a large screen by displaying an execution screen according to an application program through an external display device and controlling the application program with the portable electronic device. CONSTITUTION: If an external display device is connected, a data communication unit(220) transmits an execution image according to the execution of an application program displayed on a touch screen to the external display device. When the transmission of the execution image to the external display device is started, a control unit(240) outputs a UI(User Interface) for controlling the application program on the touch screen. A first buffer unit(232) buffers the execution image delivered to the data communication unit and a second buffer unit(234) buffers the UI screen. A plurality of UI screen exists and a UI corresponding to the application program or a selection of a user is selected.
