A PVR(Personal Video Recorder) having a copy prevention function is provided to detect a copy prevention signal from a video signal inputted from the outside, determine whether recording of the video signal is possible or not according to the detected copy prevention signal, and record the video signal if the recording is possible. A digital video decoder(102,110) converts a component video signal, inputted through a component signal input terminal(108), into a signal of digital format. A resolution determining unit(104) determines a resolution of the component video signal. A copy prevention signal detecting unit(106,112) detects a copy prevention signal inserted into the component video signal according to the resolution of the component videos signal determined by the resolution determining unit. A controller(114) determines whether recording is possible or not according to the copy prevention signal detected by the copy prevention signal detecting unit if a recording command for the component video signal is inputted. If so, the controller stores the component video signal of the digital format, converted by the digital video decoder, in a storage medium. |
