Scaling resources for virtual machines, using comparison with established threshold values

A controller for a virtualised environment is designed to manage the resources (such as CPU availability, RAM allocation, disk space) allocated to at least one virtual machine in the virtual network, by comparing the resources currently being used by that virtual machine to a threshold value, and automatically scaling the resources according to the result of that comparison; e.g. increasing CPU usage if the machine in question is exceeding its expected usage value. The controller may monitor the resources itself, in real-time. Thresholds may be set to provide upper or lower limits for scaling appropriately. The system is better able to deal with the dynamic nature of the virtual networks resource utilisation as a result.
