Blast furnace bottom - cooling system avoids coolant contacting and damaging refractory lining

Blast furnace bottom has a high thermal conductivity layer (I) containing coolant tubes (II) fitted below the refractory brickwork. (II) are fitted into (I) in borings and surrounded by a resilient mass. Pref. a number of (II) are assembled as a cooling register with a number of collectors and an adjustable flow supply and evacuation line, each two adjacent registers being arranged in counter-current.
