This driving assistance device is characterized by being provided with: a speed region calculation unit that calculates a speed region for a vehicle in which there is a possibility of the vehicle making contact with a moving object coming from a blind spot when the vehicle advances in the direction of travel; a target speed calculation unit that calculates a target speed for the vehicle on the basis of the speed region; a driving assistance starting point calculation unit that calculates a driving assistance starting point specified according to the state of the vehicle when driving assistance commences; and a target speed modification unit that modifies the target speed when the driving assistance starting point is within the speed region. The driving assistance device is further characterized in that: the speed region is specified according to the relationship between the speed of the vehicle and the distance of the vehicle relative to a reference position in a location constituting a blind spot; the driving assistance starting point is specified according to the speed of the vehicle when driving assistance commences, and the distance of the vehicle relative to the reference position; the target speed calculation unit treats a speed that is lower than the speed region at the reference position as the target speed; and the target speed modification unit treats a value higher than the value calculated by the target speed calculation unit, among the speeds at the reference position, as the new target speed. |
