<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently carry out the display work of merchandise, in relation to the technique of instructing the display place for a piece of merchandise. <P>SOLUTION: A small size sign 2 is pasted on a merchandise piece, and a detector 12 for the detection of the sign position detects the position of the small sign 2. A display position determination part 14 studies the distribution of positions of small size signs 2 and determines whether a preliminarily specified standard is fulfilled or not to detect the disorder in the display. When the disorder in the display is detected, the determination part 14 determines positions of merchandise pieces to eliminate the disorder in the display, and make the small size sign 2 indicate the position of the display. Then, a clerk can arrange the merchandise piece just by looking at the small size sign 2 pasted on each the merchandise piece without confirming a display diagram or an information terminal, and further without specialized knowledge associated with display.
