<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that an optical sheet sensor cannot read a test chart. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: the optical sensor 70 on a side surface of a carriage 3 in a main scanning direction. A sensor control part 215 switches light emission in a light emitting part 71 of the optical sensor 70 when the optical sensor receives a command that it optical sensor 70 senses a sheet 9 and a command that it reads the test chart formed on the sheet 9.
