<p>A method of controlling network node radio link transmit power in a wireless telecommunications network, a network node and computer program product operable to carry out that method. The radio link is operable to support data traffic communication within said network on a data channel of that radio link. The method comprises: monitoring said data traffic on said channel of said radio link for a period of inactivity; and if inactivity is detected,
setting a power control parameter, in accordance with which said network node radio link transmit power is set, to a default minimum value;
communicating said parameter to said network node;
monitoring whether said default minimum power control parameter is being achieved and requesting a predetermined change to said parameter if not.
Such a method allows for a potential increase in air interface capacity gain by providing data activity aware power control. Such a method may be particularly beneficial to manage power control of bursty or discontinuous data traffic</p> |
