An LCD is provided to utilize the entire pixel as a reflective layer or a transmissive window without dividing the pixel into a reflective region or a transmissive region, by using a half-mirror disposed between a lower substrate and a liquid crystal layer. An LCD panel(200) has a lower substrate(210), an upper substrate(270), and a liquid crystal layer(280) formed between the lower and upper substrates. A reflective plate(100) is disposed below the LCD panel. A half-mirror(260) is interposed between the lower substrate and the liquid crystal layer. The half-mirror reflects a portion of the natural light, which passes through the liquid crystal layer, and transmits the rest of the natural light, during a reflective mode. The half-mirror reflects a portion of the artificial light, which passes through the lower substrate, and transmits the rest of the artificial light, during a transmission mode. When the transmitted light is reflected by the reflective layer, the half-mirror reflects a portion of the light reflected from the reflective layer and transmits the rest of the reflected light. |
