#CMT# #/CMT# The power unit (SEL) has a regulation unit configured to regulate total electric power before being provided to the power unit, so that separately excited direct current electric machines (ME1, ME2) attain reference speed. Another regulation unit regulates power of each of the machines, so that each of the machines reaches the reference speed. An input processing block is configured to determine excitation currents (Iexc1, Iexc2) corresponding to the total electric power before being provided to the power unit and to the powers of each of the machines. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an electric power unit. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Electric power unit for a car. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The input processing block is configured to determine the excitation currents corresponding to the total electric power before being provided to the power unit and to the powers of the machines in a simple and reliable manner.
