<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase efficiency percentage of final products and to reduce a cost by checking an operation of a TFT substrate before depositing an EL material, in active matrix EL display devices. <P>SOLUTION: Each pixel is provided with a capacitor electrically connected to a drain region of a driving TFT and further electrically connected to an EL element in parallel to check charging and discharging of the capacitor. Consequently, whether or not the driving TFT operates normally is determined.
