This halogen-terminated sulfur-containing polymer is represented by the following formula: X-(R-Sr)n-R-X (wherein R represents an ether bond-containing alkyl group having 3-26 carbon atoms, X represents a halogen atom, n represents an integer of 1-200, and r has an average of 1-5). This halogen-terminated sulfur-containing polymer is extremely useful as a plasticizer for polysulfide polymers in industrial applications. In addition, this halogen-terminated sulfur-containing polymer can be used as a plasticizer for highly polar resins such as thioether polymers and vinyl chloride, and as an additive for materials that require high refractive index such as optical fibers. This halogen-terminated sulfur-containing polymer is useful as an intermediate for a thiol-terminated polysulfide polymer and the like.
