The system has a sensor device comprising sensors and a warning signal transmitter, which are arranged in front and/or rear regions of a motor vehicle (2). The sensors are connected in signal communication with a person recognition unit, which triggers a warning signal perceptible by other road users when a person, a vehicle or an animal move in sensor regions (8, 9). The warning signal is displayed as a warning on a display area (12), which is visible from outside the motor vehicle. The warning signal is designed as an optical warning signal (10) and/or an acoustic warning signal. The sensors are designed as radar detectors, ultrasonic sensors and/or camera systems.
