A battery (30) powered industrial truck supplies power to the truck brakes (20,22) controlled by the control system (14). A back-up power supply in the form of a capacitor (28) is provided, which, in the event of a power failure, is adequate to supply the brakes. A blocking diode (32) is provided between battery and capacitor. This power source can be reinforced by changing over the motor to generator operation when braking.
