<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk brake that reduces brake noise, uneven wear of a friction pad, and judder to improve performance. <P>SOLUTION: A shim plate 11 that comes in contact with an annular contact part 6A of a piston 6 is disposed on the rear surface of a friction pad 7. The shim plate 11 includes first and second rotation-input-side notches 13, 14 disposed in a position corresponding to the annular contact part 6A of the piston 6 on the disk rotation input side, for example, so that the contact area between the shim plate 11 and the annular contact part 6A is larger on the disk rotation output side than in the disk rotation input side. The first and second rotation-input-side notches 13, 14 have four contact ends 15 where periphery of the notches 13, 14 cross the annular contact part 6A.
