<p>The wheel is used on lorries and similar heavy road vehicles and comprises a wheel disc joined to the brake drum for the wheel by means of bolts through common contacting surfaces (7, 8, 9). In order to prevent distortion in operation, the contact surfaces for the wheel disc (1, 2) and the corresponding surface of the brake drum (3, 4) are machined flat and perpendicular to the bolt holes. The bolt flange for the brake drum has an annular step machined in its face, this being used to house the heads (10) of the bolts (5). The opposite side is provided with a clearance recess (6) around each hole.</p> |
