<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water electrolytic apparatus further improved in safety. <P>SOLUTION: The water electrolytic apparatus includes: a water electrolytic stack 4; a first water supply/discharge part 50; a second water supply/discharge part 60; and a vessel 9. The water electrolytic stack 4 electrolyses water to generate oxygen and hydrogen. The first water supply/discharge part 50 supplies water to an anode of the water electrolytic stack 4 and discharges the oxygen and surplus water therefrom. The second water supply/discharge part 60 supplies water to a cathode of the water electrolytic stack 4 and discharges the hydrogen and surplus water therefrom. The vessel 9 submerges the water electrolytic stack 4 to be stored. Pressures in the second water supply/discharge part 60 and the vessel 9 are equalized. When the water electrolytic stack 4 stops, the first water supply/discharge part 50 blocks a pipe supplying/discharging water to/from the water electrolytic stack 4.
