<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active clamp circuit with a reduced active-clamp operation period and improved ESD resistance. <P>SOLUTION: An active clamp circuit includes a first switch element, a first diode, a first resistor, and first and second control circuits. The first diode breaks down by overvoltage across the first switch element. The first resistor detects a current flowing through the first diode. The first control circuit amplifies a voltage across the first resistor and controls a current flowing through the first switch element.
