<p>The method involves selecting a set of brake stages of a hydrodynamic retarder (2) using an input device (3). Certain target braking torque is assigned to each brake stage. A braking torque portion is provided by a service brake (1) till the hydrodynamic retarders reach the target braking torque when switching a brake stage of the retarder, where the braking torque portion corresponds to the difference between the target braking torque and the current braking torque produced by the retarder. An input variable to be set with the desired braking torque is calculated. An independent claim is also included for a powertrain for a vehicle.</p> |
