The invention relates to a carbon brick for lining, more particularly internal lining, smelting and reduction ovens, more particularly blast furnaces, said carbon brick having a surface, one area of the surface providing a process side of the carbon brick that is brought into contact with liquid metal, more particularly crude iron, and/or slag during intended use, and the carbon brick having a base body containing a carbon material, with a surface. The invention is characterized in that, in order to prepare the process side of the carbon brick, a protective coating comprising a friction-reducing ceramic coating or formed therefrom is applied to at least one area of the base body surface.
