<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printing apparatus capable of appropriately removing wrinkles occurring in a material to be printed while reducing extra tension applied to the material to be printed as much as possible, and further removing the wrinkles more securely. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided an ink jet printing apparatus 1 in which relative movement of a roller 10A for pressing a printed side surface of a material to be printed and a mounting plate 7 mounting the material to be printed allows the material to be printed on the mounting plate 7 to be pressed by the roller 10A along a transporting direction of the material. The apparatus 1 eliminates the need for applying tension to the material to be printed only for removing the wrinkles occurring in the material to be printed, suppresses extension of the entire material to be printed, and can provide an appropriate printing result.
