A total dental prosthesis for the upper jaw of a patient is so produced that it is first an approx. fit over the gums and the roof of the mouth. An accurate fit of the prosthesis (19) is then produced by building a ridge of thermo-plastics material (23) around the edge of the prosthesis. - The prothesis is then pressed against the upper jaw so that an exact fit is achieved. The applied material is then hardened to produce the required prosthesis. The material is applied from a tube (31) of kidney-shaped cross-section and is forced out of the tube by a piston (45).
