Systems (100), methods (300), and apparatus (105) for configuring utility meters (110) are provided. A meter configuration application may be executed (305) by a device (105) that includes one or more computers and that facilitates utility meter configuration. A plug-in module (230) associated with a utility meter type may be received (310) by the device (105). Based at least in part upon providing the plug-in module (230) to the meter configuration application, a configuration file (245) may be built (315) for the utility meter type. The utility meter (110) may then be configured (320) utilizing the configuration file (245).
