PURPOSE: A PON(Passive Optical Network) system and an ONT(Optical Network Terminal) abnormality detecting method thereabout are provided to determine the existence of ONT malfunction by forming a virtual terminal in plural ONT terminals, applying a trigger signal to a virtual terminal section, and detecting a corresponding LOS signal. CONSTITUTION: Plural ONT terminals(130) include one or more virtual ONT terminals. The virtual ONT terminal outputs an optical signal to a time slot section allocated according to a time division access control method. An OLT(Optical Line Terminal)(110) receives the outputted optical signal. The OLT determines the existence of an LOS signal corresponding to the trigger signal of the section.
