A broadcasting receiver and a method for performing an automatic viewing restricting function are provided to realize a user-oriented viewing environment by performing the automatic viewing restricting based on user viewing information. A communication unit receives a broadcasting signal of a program having a viewing rate. A memory(50) stores user viewing information to set an automatic viewing restricting mode according to the viewing rate. A controller(60) checks a user identification number for operating the automatic viewing restricting mode, and controls the outputting of the broadcasting signal of the program based on the user viewing information corresponding to the user identification number. A display unit(40) displays the program based on the user viewing information. |
