Disclosed is a method for the treatment and prevention of a parasitic infestation by flies selected from the group consisting of Hematobia sp., Musca sp., Stomoxys sp., Dermatobia sp. and Cochliomyia sp. in a non-human animal, comprising administering to the animal an effective amount of a 1-aryl-5-alkyl pyrazole compound of formula (I), wherein: R1 is cyano; R2 is -S(O)mR11; R3 is methyl, or ethyl, optionally substituted with one to three halogen; R4, R5 and R7 are independently hydrogen, or halogen; R6 is alkyl, haloalkyl, haloalkoxy, or -SF5; Z is a nitrogen atom or C-R13; R11 is haloalkyl; R13 is hydrogen, or halogen; and m is 0, 1 or 2; or a salt thereof. Disclosed compounds of formula (I) include 1-(2-chloro-6-fluoro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-3-cyano-4-dichlorofluoromethylthio-5-methylpyrazole and 1-(2-chloro-6-fluoro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-3-cyano-4-dichlorofluoromethylsulfinyl-5-methylpyrazole.
