The reel (1) has a drum (4) to accommodate several rings (5) of a rope (2). The drum is supported by a belt harness (6) and a rucksack (8), so that a human carrier (3) of the reel supports the drum in a hands free manner, where the drum is accessible and/or operable by the carrier for wrapping and storing the rope in the drum. The drum extends between an internal end (4I) located toward the belt harness and an external end (4E) located outwardly with respect to the belt harness, where the drum is rotatable about a winding axis (X-X') of the rings of the rope. An independent claim is also included for a method for securing a person with a rope to prevent a slip or an accidental fall.
