<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer management device and a printer capable of discriminating a printer whose necessity is high from a printer whose necessity is low without requiring a new introduction of equipment for determining a printer necessity and preferably operating the printer having a high necessity while minimizing power consumption of the printer having a low necessity. <P>SOLUTION: An administrative server calculates and records a time starting from a print execution by a PC until an authentication card insertion at a printer. On the basis of this record, the administrative server checks the number of PCs which have executed printing operation in a specific time in a specific period among all active PCs for each printer. The administrative server estimates that, when the number of PCs checked for a printer is large, the printer has a high necessity having many active PCs around the printer, and operates preferably such printers as many as possible within a total power consumption range less than a specified value, while it brings other printers into a state in which all power supplies except a power supply to a communication device are stopped. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
