<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rewritable recording medium of external drive type, or the like, which is excellent in image holding property, image quality such as high contrast, cost, safety and flexibility. <P>SOLUTION: The recording medium comprises a base material and an image recording layer contained in the base material. The image recording layer contains at least any of electrophoretic particles and magnetophoretic particles, a dispersant, and a heat-reversible gelatinizer. The heat-reversible gelatinizer is at least white turbit when it is gelatinous.
