<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing a job in execution from being abnormally finished due to a power failure and a control method for the image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus executes the following steps: a step (322) for calculating a job completion time required for the completion of a job when the execution of the job is instructed; a step (324) for calculating a finish time of the job and determining whether or not the finish time of the job is before a start time of the power failure; a step (328) for identifying processing of a part of the job which can be completed by the start time of the power failure when it is determined that the finish time of the job is not before the start time of the power failure; a step (326) for starting the job when it is determined that the finish time of the job is before the start time of the power failure; a step (330) for starting the processing of the part of the job when it is determined that the finish time of the job is not before the start time of the power failure.
