The control device (1) comprises a sensor surface (2), and a sensor unit (4) operated by infrared radiation (11), such that a signal is generated for controlling a component, such as a screen or an on-board computer in the motor vehicle upon contact of the sensor surface or in the immediate vicinity of the sensor surface. The sensor unit is provided for monitoring the interior of the vehicle, particularly the passenger compartment. The sensor surface is made of an infrared transmissive material.
