An anode for a secondary battery and a secondary battery including the anode are provided to minimize and suppress the volume change of the Si-C composite and to improve coherence or adhesion between anodes or anode and current collector, thereby improving capacity and lifetime property of a battery. An anode for a secondary battery comprises an anode active material including a second carbonaceous substance and an Si-C composite formed by alloying silicon and a first carbonaceous substance; and polyvinyl alcohol. The Si-C composite is dispersed between the second carbonaceous substances. The ratio of the Si-C composite to the second carbonaceous substance is 2~10 : 90~98 parts by weight. The Si-C composite is has a ratio of silicon (Si): carbon (C) of 40~80 : 20~60 parts by weight. |
