PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance output and film strength and to decrease noise by incorporating magnetic material powder having coercive force within a specific range, an org. titanium compd. and a binder into a magnetic layer and providing this magnetic layer and a base with nonmagnetic layers. SOLUTION: This magnetic recording medium has the nonmagnetic layer contg. the inorg. powder and binder on one side of the nonmagnetic base and is formed with the magnetic layer contg. the ferromagnetic alloy powder contg. >=75%γ-FeOx (x=1.33 to 1.5) having the coercive force of >=1500 to <4000 oersted and a saturation magnetization quantity of 125 to 200 emu/g and the org. titanium compd. thereon. The magnetic material powder and the org. titanium compd. are used in combination, by which the magnetic material powder is effectively dispersed and the org. titanium compd. can be replaced with a relatively large amt. of a binder and, therefore, the amt. of the binder is decreased and the density of the magnetic material powder may be increased. The ferromagnetic powder having a specific surface area of 45 to 80 m<2> /g by a BET method and a crystal size of 350 to 80Åis used as the ferromagnetic powder in terms of the noise and surface characteristic.
