AUTOMOTIVE PAINT SEALANT FOR PREVENTION OF BLISTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automotive paint sealant, particularly a non-foam type automotive paint sealant based on a vinyl chloride resin that can prevent blisters from developing when the sealant is applied and after being dried and then left to stand an intermediate coating and a top coating are applied.

SOLUTION: The automotive paint sealant for the prevention of blisters is a non-foam type automotive paint sealant which includes a vinyl chloride resin (PVC) but does not include a foaming agent and which can prevent blisters from developing on the final coating film after the processes of applying the automotive paint sealant, temporarily baking or drying after applying the paint sealant, standing after temporarily baking or drying and applying an intermediate coating and (or) a top coating after being left to stand. The automotive paint sealant for the prevention of blisters is produced by adding magnesium oxide (MgO) into the automotive paint sealant so that the sum total of the surface area calculated by formula (1) as given below satisfies the range of 3.5 to 6.2 m2. Formula (1): a specific surface area (m2/g) of MgO×[the addition amount (g) of MgO/the addition amount (g) of PVC]×[the total amount (g) of components constituting the sealant/100]=3.5 to 6.2 m2. Blisters can be prevented and swelling will not be caused by adding magnesium oxide (MgO) within the range of the sum total of surface area of 3.5 to 6.2 m2as calculated by formula (1) to the non-foam type automotive paint sealant including the vinyl chloride resin.
