The invention relates to a method for OCR detection of valuable documents in an automated teller machine, in which an image of the valuable document is detected by means of a digital video or matrix camera. Edge lines of the valuable document are calculated by means of a Hough transformation and an angle of rotation is calculated therefrom so that the edges of the valuable document are aligned to the image edges. The detected image is homogenized in order to compensate for an inhomogeneous image background. Subsequently, alphanumeric information is OCR detected on the valuable document.
