<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst by which the flow-out of an exhaust gas is reduced or completely prevented and a manufacturing apparatus for the same. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst includes a monolith surrounded by a mat (3) in a housing and the housing includes a deformed housing blank and a stepwise bent part is provided in a region of a vertical direction edge (18) of the housing blank. When the housing is deformed and formed around the monolith provided with the mat (3), the housing blank is connected so that the vertical direction edge (17) may be brought into contact with a part turned to the radius direction outside of the bent part.
