PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyester for a fiber, a film and a resin by which the polyester having good color containing a small amount of a catalyst residue is produced without lowering the quality by using a specific nitrogen-containing compound as the catalyst. SOLUTION: The polyester containing a small amount of the catalyst residue is produced by using a specific nitrogen-containing organic compound as the catalyst for esterification, ester-interchange reaction and polycondensation when producing the polyester by polycondensing a product obtained by subjecting an alkyl ester of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a dihydroxy compound to an ester-interchange reaction, or a dihydroxy aliphatic alkyl ester of the aromatic dicarboxylic acid.
