PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle steering device precisely detecting a steering torque and properly controlling steering. SOLUTION: A steering assist force is set on the basis of a steering torque outputted from a steering torque sensor in the normal operation of a torque sensor 6 (S14). On the other hand, in the abnormal operation of the steering torque sensor 6, the steering torque is detected on the basis of control deviation of a transmission ratio variable mechanism 4 (S18, S20), and the steering assist force is set based on the detected steering torque, so that a power steering mechanism 7 is controlled to give the set steering assist force to a steering force transmission system (S22).
