Each fork exhibits at least two tines (15a, 25a) arranged at a distance to each other, where the distance corresponds to the diameter of the cone of the electrode shaft in the area of the groove-like free space. Device (1) to lift an electrode cap (55) of the cone of an electrode shaft (50) of a welding device, comprises at least one pair of successively adjusted fork. The electrode cap is mounted on the cone, and a groove-like, circular free space is formed between a startup collar of the electrode shaft and the startup collar-side end of the electrode cap. Each fork exhibits at least two tines (15a, 25a) arranged at a distance to each other, where the distance corresponds to the diameter of the cone of the electrode shaft in the area of the groove-like free space. At least the tines of the fork are designed into a wedge shape towards the open end. The two forks of at least one fork pair are inserted against each other in the groove like-free space by a drive device (5) so that a lifting force is applied on the electrode cap by the tines.</p>
