By rotating a rotary filter (32) for special monitoring purpose, said rotary filter (32) being set on the optical path of a wideband light source (30), a specimen is irradiated successively with first to fourth narrowband lights (N1-N4). Images formed respectively on the basis of reflected images of the first and fourth narrowband lights (N1, N4) are vessel enhanced images in which superficial blood vessels and middle-deep blood vessels are enhanced respectively. Images formed on the basis of reflected images of the second to fourth narrowband lights (N2 to N4) are oxygen saturation degree images in which oxygen saturation degrees of bloodstream hemoglobin are imaged. These vessel enhanced images and oxygen saturation degree images thus formed are displayed in parallel on a monitor (14).
