<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus able to reduce occurrences of scratch on an image carrier and so on and free from distortion of an image on a target transfer material. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises: an image carrier 2; an exposure part 4 for forming an electrostatic latent image on the surface of the image carrier 2 by exposing the image carrier 2; a transfer part 8 for transferring a toner image to a target transfer material T; a cleaning member for cleaning the surface of the image carrier 2 after transfer while kept in contact with this surface; a rotation drive mechanism 60 for rotating and driving the image carrier 2 around a rotation shaft 23; and an axial position changing mechanism 70 for changing a contact position between the image carrier 2 and cleaning member by reciprocally moving the image carrier 2 in the axial direction X-Y of the rotation shaft 23. The phase of the period of the reciprocal movement of the image carrier 2 in the axial direction X-Y by the axial position changing mechanism 70 is shifted from that of the period of the drive rotation around the rotation shaft 23 by the rotation drive mechanism 60 so that when the image carrier 2 is reciprocally moved one or more integral number of times in the axial direction X-Y, the surface of the image carrier 2 is rotated to the position of transfer by the transfer part 8 from the position of exposure by the exposure part 4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
