PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for sealing and/or cutting tissue.

SOLUTION: An electrosurgical instrument 10 for performing sealing and/or dividing tissue includes: a housing 20 having a shaft 12 attached thereto which defines a longitudinal axis; and a first jaw member which is movable relative to a second jaw member. The first jaw member is attached to the shaft and can relatively move from a first open position wherein the jaw members 100 are disposed in spaced relation relative to one another to a second closed position wherein the jaw members cooperate to grasp tissue therebetween. The instrument also includes: a drive rod assembly which imparts movement of the jaw members between the first and second positions; a rotating assembly 80 which rotates the jaw members about the longitudinal axis and is attached to the housing; and a knife assembly which is also attached to the housing.
