The structural element is formed by prestressing round bamboo (c) by means of a reinforcement (d) of cables that pass longitudinally through the cavities and the openings of the bamboo, and are fixed, by means of anchor elements (a), to plates (b) supported on the ends of the lengths of bamboo to be prestressed, thereby exerting an over-compression thereon, before use. Structural elements can be formed, that have sections consisting of a plurality of lengths of round bamboo arranged in parallel, which are made to work together by the compression exerted thereon as a result of the traction of the reinforcement fixed to the end plates by means of anchor elements. Structural elements that are very long and light can also be formed by joining together a plurality of consecutive sections.
