Provided is a method for producing di-TMP by reacting n-butyl aldehyde (NBD), formaldehyde, and a base, the method for producing di-TMP comprising a first step for obtaining a reaction solution containing trimethylolpropane (TMP), di-TMP, and 2-ethyl-2-propenal (ECR) by reacting NBD, diformaldehyde (1) and base (I); a second step for distillation and recovery of the ECR from the reaction mixture; and a third step for gradually promoting a reaction by which di-TMP is produced by adding the ECR recovered by evaporation to the reaction mixture after evaporation and recovering the ECR and adding at least one of base (II) and formaldehyde (2), wherein TMP is added during any one or any combination of steps 1 through 3.
