<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a belt edge filler and/or a belt edge tape, improved well balancedly in breaking resistance, fatigue resistance and cut resistance while maintaining low heat buildup, and to provide a pneumatic tire. <P>SOLUTION: The rubber composition contains at least a rubber component and an inorganic filler, and becomes a raw material of at least one part of a belt edge filler and a belt edge tape. The inorganic filler has an angle of repose of ≥40°, a Mohs' hardness of ≤2.0, a BET specific surface area (BET5)(m<SP POS="POST">2</SP>/g) of ≥10 m<SP POS="POST">2</SP>/g, and a ratio (DBP)/(BET5) of an absorbing amount (ml/100 g) of dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and the BET specific surface area (BET5)(m<SP POS="POST">2</SP>/g) of ≥2.0.
