PURPOSE: An automatic mode switching method of a broadcasting receiving apparatus and a broadcasting receiving apparatus applying the same are provided to reduce recognition time and to extend a range of STB non-use state recognition. CONSTITUTION: If a remote signal is received from a remote controller to a remote controller receiving unit, a processor recognizes a user command by analysis of the received remote controller signal(S420,S430). If the recognized user command is a TV-OFF command, the processor switches an operation mode of an STB(Set Top Box) into a standby mode(S440,S450).
